Ordering Wine in a High-End Restaurant
Posted at 09:11, 24/05/2009 by JodyK
Going out for dinner is fun, especially when you make a big night of it with a bottle of wine.

But a bottle should not break the bank. If you just got a big bonus you’re dying to spend, then hey, seize the moment and order the absolute top-of-the-line. The rest of us mere mortals should feel perfectly comfortable ordering cheaper, or even the cheapest bottle on the menu.  No shame there.  It is on the menu, hence a completely legitimate choice.

As with any meal, you should choose a wine that compliments the cuisine. If you need help choosing, feel free to ask the sommelier for help. This person is there for a reason. If you have a budget in mind, there is no need to feel embarrassed. Again, it’s part of his job.

Wine is supposed to enhance the enjoyment of your meal. So no matter what is recommended, make sure to go with something you will enjoy. There is certainly nothing uncultured about that.
