You’ve started to collect old toys, or simply stumbled upon some in your attic. So, you ask, besides the possible memories, what are they worth? There are a number of factors involved in evaluating the worth of old toys. They include: Rarity – In a nutshell, rarity is the primary factor for determining a toy’s value. More expensive toys, due to there inherent value, have generally endured better than smaller cheaper toys. Hence, almost counter-intuitively, smaller cheaper toys are often of higher (monetary) value. Condition – The most desirable toys are those which are in true mint condition (still intact in box with instructions), or mint condition (fully intact and unrepaired with all accompanying parts). Most toys, however, are only in good condition or worse. The amount of wear-and-tear tolerated often depends on the rarity of the item. Authenticity – Authenticity is, well, hard to authenticate. Some toys, particularly in highly coveted categories, are more susceptible to fakery (less valuable toys are not generally worth replicating). The best you can do is protect yourself. Walk away if your senses tell you to. And, whenever possible, get a written guarantee from the seller, just in case.
