Learn the Art of Bargaining
Posted at 11:15, 18/05/2009 by JodyK
Many westerners are timid when it comes to bargaining. We tend to think, the price is the price is the price. But this is not always so. When it comes to purchasing antiques and collectibles, there is often room for negotiations.

That being said, you want to be careful not to insult the seller in the process. When making an offer, try to be reasonable. That is offer what you actually believe to be a fair price for the item. If the item is flawed, you may point out the flaw, but try doing so in a genteel manner.

You’ll have to use different tactics with different markets. Garage sales are very different in essence than say estate sales, flea markets or antique shops. Each venue and its sellers should be approached with this in mind.

And remember, when it comes to bargaining, it’s always worth a try. If you don’t ask, you’ll never know.
