Daily Care for Pearls
Posted at 08:28, 25/02/2009 by JodyK

Your pearls are precious. And unlike diamonds, as organic gemstones, they are much more sensitive to daily wear and tear.

Perfume, hairspray and moisturizer, while great for your daily beauty regime, are detrimental to pearls. In fact, pearls are so sensitive, that your very own sweat can damage them.

That’s why it’s important to gently wipe them with a damp (not wet) soft cloth after each wearing.

You also want to avoid getting your pearls wet, especially strung pearls (such as necklaces and bracelets) as the moisture weakens the silk thread. As with most delicates, you also want to keep your pearls out of direct sunlight and extreme heat.

I hope I haven’t scared you out of wearing your beautiful jewels. The point of having them, of course, is to wear them. Taking good care of your pearls ensures that you’ll be able to enjoy them for as long as possible.
