How to Clean a Diamond
Posted at 11:32, 22/02/2009 by JodyK

We should all be so lucky as to have this problem, but diamonds, like all physical possessions, need cleaning, from time to time.  And while it’s commonly known that diamonds are “indestructible”, we’d rather not test that.

When in doubt, the easiest solution to most problems is to seek a professional.  Most fine jewelers offer a diamond cleaning service.  While you’re already there, you can also have the overall piece checked to make sure the diamond is secured in its setting.

If you’re a DIY kinda gal (or guy), you can use a mild dishwashing detergent, warm water and a toothbrush to clean your stone.  Make sure, however, to put the plug in your sink.  Any savings of doing it yourself will literally be washed away if you drop your diamond down the drain.

Most surprisingly, apparently, you can also clean a diamond in vodka.  Just leave the diamond in a glass of vodka to soak, and voila, vodka on the rocks works its magic.
