How to Move a Couch around a Tight Corner

I just read an article on Apartment Therapy that references one of my favorite
Friends
episodes of all time. Ross decides to carry his new couch home with Rachel’s help to avoid the shipping charge. Despite his clear instructions—sarcasm…all he says is “Pivot!” about 50 times—they can’t get it around the tight corner.
The lesson here: it’s OK to take advantage of your friends. Just be smart about it.
Tip # 1
Once you get to the 90-degree turn at the landing, don’t turn the furniture. Just take it up still facing the way it got there. So if the part you sit on is facing down the stairs when you start, it will be facing one side or the other as it goes up the second section of the stairs.
