Your kid probably looks criminally cute skipping around in swimmies, carrying a shovel and a sand-covered tuna sandwich. But the beach isn’t exactly the safest place for your camera equipment with all the water and extra people jumping into your shots. If you know what you're doing, it's worth the risk! Digital Photography School has some smart suggestions to immortalize your beach day, including: Look for focal points. Instead of just shooting at the ocean or going for the beach cliché, maybe walk to the water and then turn around. Focus on a pattern in the sand, a set of footprints, or a lifeguard’s tower. Timing is important. The start and the end of the day are good choices because there will be less people around and you’ll get more interesting effects of shadows and colors. Watch the horizon. Try to keep your horizon square to the framing of your shot (read more here ). Also consider placing your horizon off centre as centered horizons can leave a photo looking chopped in half.
