Heat Warning for Pets
Posted at 01:22, 30/06/2008 by LauraWilliams

If you're just running into a store quickly you may think nothing of leaving your pet in the car, but this is a huge mistake! According to DogHealth1.com, the temperature in a locked car can rise to over 100 degrees in minutes which could lead to heat stroke.

Signs of heat stroke:

  • Thirst
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Sluggishness
  • Higher body temperature
  • Sweating
  • Irritability
  • Raspy throat with difficulty breathing

Quick action for heat stroke:

Put your dog in a cool bath, or use cool towels to bring the body temperature down. Feed him ½-teaspoon of lemon juice to cut the phlegm in the throat if it’s raspy. Children’s Benadryl is another histamine blocker.
