Use Your Mobile Phone as a Modem
Posted at 23:51, 27/06/2008 by LauraWilliams

Have you ever tried to access the Internet on your mobile phone? Unless you have a device with a large screen and a decent keypad you probably get frustrated quickly. According to Chris Silva, analyst for market research firm Forrester Research, you can use your mobile phone as a modem and transfer its signal to your laptop. This could come in handy if you're on a bus or a train.

Requirements:

  • Your mobile phone needs to web-enabled with a built-in modem and a data port.
  • Your service providers must offer autoswitching from digital to analog so you don’t lose the connection as you move to different locations.
  • You must have free long distance or free local access numbers nationwide.

After that, all you need is a data cable to connect your phone to your notebook. For more detailed instructions, check out this About article entitled Use Your Cell Phone as a Modem.
