Scan Negatives and Film Without Extra Equipment
Posted at 23:45, 14/05/2008 by Dina323

To scan your old negatives and turn them into great prints you have two options: shell out the cash to buy a film scanner, or go the backyard and grab some clothespins.

According to a handy fellow at Instructables, ordinary scanners tend to warp the original image when the surface of the negative touches the scanner window. While this can be easily avoided with 35mm negatives - simply flipping them over will give you a reasonable result - some negatives (particularly 120mm film) won't stay flat. Here are where clothespins enter the picture:

Keep your film flat by securing it with the small, decorative clothespins. They'll raise the negative just enough to prevent it from touching the surface of the scanner, without lifting it high enough to warp the image.

When you upload your scans, simply invert the colors and you'll have a perfect photo - no distortions, no extra equipment.
