Even if you use a hand-me-down vacuum that originally retailed for less than a broom, you still want to get the most from it. Real Simple offers a suggestion for cleaning the brush roller: Use a seam ripper (from your sewing kit) to cut through the lint and hairs that get trapped around it. This way you won't have to go over the same spot multiple times.
