Retrieve Jammed Zip Disks Without Breaking Them
Posted at 17:29, 17/04/2008 by Dina323

Of all the handy ways to store data, zip disks seem to be the most prone to getting physically stuck inside PCs. Although one could interpret this tendency simply as an extreme fondness for computers, nobody likes a clingy accessory. So if your zip gets jammed, don't get mad, just follow WorldStart.com's advice:

  • Shut down your computer completely (don’t just restart it). This will cut off all the power to the zip drive so it will reset itself.
  • After a minute, turn the computer back on. The zip drive should eject the disk when the computer starts back up.

If that doesn’t work…

  • Straighten out a paper clip and insert it in the little hole in front of the zip drive.
  • Push a little harder when you feel a spring-like resistance. The disk should pop out.
