Ergonomics Tip: Best Monitor Placement
Posted at 18:31, 22/05/2008 by LauraWilliams
Many of us—me included—spend the vast majority of our lives staring at computer screens, leading to headaches, eye strain, and an assortment of other health issues. Position your monitor well and you’ll live to tell your grandkids how you spent your younger years living on the edge—of your swivel chair.
Spineuniverse.com explains the ideal monitor placement (more tips and details on the site):
Position the monitor directly in front of you, facing you—not angled to the right or the left.
Align yourself to the left side of the monitor when using left-aligned programs, like MS Word.
Place the monitor at a comfortable height so you don’t have to tilt your head up or bend your neck down to see it. Your eyes should be in line with a point on the screen about 2–3 inches below the top of the monitor casing to avoid shoulder or neck pain.
The monitor should be at a comfortable horizontal distance for viewing, generally an arm’s length.
