Denon AVR-1705
Score: 68.3 (expert reviews:2 user reviews:6)
Score: 70 Posted 11-May-2005 by CNET Reviews
Denon's low-buck AVR-1705 6.1-channel receiver still manages to deliver great features and well-honed sonics.
Score: 100 Posted 12-Feb-2008 by Techradar
Overall, the Denon AVR-1705 is a hugely impressive performer, both for home cinema and music , and sounds just as good as an amplifier costing twice as much would have done a couple of years ago! Goodness only knows how Denon manage to make any money. Perhaps they expect to sell a lot of the AVR-1705; they certainly deserve to...

Pros: All the latest Dolby, DTS and proprietary sound processors. Component video upconversion, with 3 component video inputs. DVD/A, SACD external 5.1 inputs.
Cons: Product manual could be a little better written. Remote, though functional and well laid-out, could have been smaller and sleeker.

Pros: Component video upconversion means you can run one cable from the receiver to your TV. Connect a cable box, video game, VCR, DVD, etc. to the receiver and never have to change the inputs on your TV! Also the first low-priced receiver I've seen with *three* component video inputs. Sound quality is outstanding, plenty of power for most speakers in small to midsized rooms. Selectable crossover frequency for matching to your speaker system. What really sets it apart from competition are the features
Cons: One minor complaint is that inputs can't be renamed. Another optical digital input would be nice, as would six-channel pre-outs. But these are minor, and it's still a great buy.

Pros: Good for the price. Easy set up.
Cons: Sound quality is a bit lacking. My old optimus with the same watts sounds much better!
