Mythings seems like a very valuable service. Thank you for providing it. My question is about Feature requests. I have a few ideas that would add a lot of value to this service. What would be the best forum to solicit such requests?

You are more than welcome to write them down here,
since the forum is still in it's infancy, it might take a while for the proper sections to be provided.

Hello flanderb,
I'm Yumio, the product manager for MyThings. This is certainly the right place to post any feature requests you might have. Both the MyThings development team and product team browse the Forums everyday.

Thank You.
My idea is pretty basic. I hope to use this site for a household inventory. Adding the information to this site would be time intensive. So time intensive that I am unwilling to do it unless I am able to download a backup of the information to my home computer. This would alleviate the concern of losing all my hard work in the case of ... whatever, flood, theft, the site goes down, investors leave, you change your privacy policy and become evil:)

The question that has been running around in my head is this: "What type of export would be useful?" With the type of diverse data we can store in your database, what is the easiest format to work with? I think a zipped up file structure would be best.

For example:
|-ben's things
|---item 1
|-----photos
|-------photo 1
|-------photo 2
|-----docs
|-------doc 1
|-----data - csv of data about object, value, tags etc...
|---item 2
etc..
etc..

Thank you for listening.

Thanks for your suggestion flanderb. Your suggestion is a good one, and we will see how we can implement it in the very near future. We are also thinking of a one-button print button to print out a list of your items. We'll keep you updated on when all this will be included in MyThings.

Thanks again for writing to us, and keep the good ideas flowing!

I like the print option idea, I also plan to utilize this site
1) inventory my items
2) which also will help for insurance purposes
3) and sadly with the way things are today there is a good number
of thefts happening. I work at a Justice of Peace Office and the theft is increases
greatly. Having your valuables documented helps the police greatly.

Hi, earlybird - we actually already have a print option. When you're looking at your portfolio, you'll see on the left hand side the options to add an item, go to my list, or Export. Click on the export button and you'll be able to put all your info into an excel file and print it out. You can also print individual items - just open the item and you'll see an option to "Print this thing" on the left menu bar.

As for your other ideas, we have an insurance system in place, although you cannot use your valuation for it as yet. We are also linked up to the Trace database of stolen goods, so if any of your items gets stolen (knock on wood), you can immediately report it. You can see these options when you open your item and look at the menu bar on the left-hand side.

Let me know if you have any other ideas!

No worries! We never made a big announcement and those print features are brand new. What's the anti-head-banging-into-a-wall emoticon? Howabout one of these Applause

As I browse through everyone's things, which I have enjoyed. It appears by the description that some items might be for sell???

Just a thought, Maybe there could be a box that could be check that lets people know that a certain is available for sell.

Or maybe those who do have items that they would be interested in selling putting that in the description.

Everyone have a great day

I've noticed that too, Barbara. We're working on a few different applications that'll make getting rid of stuff a bit easier, but you're right - so far there's no place to directly advertise what's for sale. So I made a new forum for it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hi there...just a thought...

I wondered if the community would be interested, for those of us who are sellers (or sometimes sellers...) when we sell something... wondered if people would like to see the price realized? e.g. I have a piece here that was valued at x dollars, and it actually sold for y dollars?

on the other hand, online markets seem to be pretty down right now in the US anyway, and I wouldn't want valuers to feel like they were being criticized if the realized price was lower than the value? because I certainly intend no criticism. All the information I've been given (on my own stuff and on other peoples' stuff) has been incredibly useful and interesting...

dunno, just a thought.

one of the things I really like about mythings is that it is very much a "learning community" where we all learn together... so I just thought this may be one way to "learn."

I have been THRILLED with this site and enjoyed every minute I've spent here, I'm spreading the word, etc. etc. etc.

I expect this place to get huge and sold off for a bazillion dollars eventually! :d/ just don't forget us "little people" when it happens..... :)

I agree that this site has been very informative and a great place to be, just need to get some of those people out of the rafters down here and chat, though when I am around I think most everyone is sleeping.Pray

I agree with you on US prices being low. On the valuations I have received here I can't see ever getting that in the US.

A person can only get the best prices if they have the right contacts or a good outlet.

When you are from a small town you don't have too many options.

Though I still love to find unique things and dream of the great find that will bring me big money and I will go on vacation and take pictures and show everyoneApplause

I sold on Ebay for a number of years but since my mothers death and taking care of my father and his death, I just can't seem to get back with it. I need badly maybe one day

What about an import option, so you can upload for example a huge list of books, DVD's etc. to your wishlist or things I own?

Similarly, an export function, so you can download all your content and play around with it in excel or otherwise.

I just started to use this site, and I have several questions and some suggestions.

1) I've added several items, including their values, but my primary page says I have $0 value to my items

2) Can I alter the default 'images' that appear next to my items? (perhaps even uploading my own?)

3) can you abbreviate the list so that it is one (maybe two) lines of information only? I could imagine this would get quite cumbersome with 1" blocks.

4) I see that I should 'add' my cell phone. I'm not sure I understand this process. I've added my phone (it's even listed as one of my items), but this prompt is still displayed under GET MORE ORGANIZED.

5) I understand some prophits will be drive by the ads on your site, but the initial layout of the page seems wasteful. I'm not sure what other people see... but when I log into MY THINGS, I get over one inch of white space between the primary tabs (MY THINGS - SERVICES - COLLECTIONS) and the sub tabs (THINGS I OWN - MY RECEIPTS - ADD A THING). The 1" of space is vital! With the 1" of white space AND the top ad, most of the MYTHINGS data is crammed on the bottom of the page and rolls off the screen. Move up the sub tabs so that I get more real estate for the listings. Plus I have a 1" white space on the right between the frame of the site, and the grid of items. I'm using IE7, 1024 x 769 on a 19" monitor.

Those are my initial thoughts after reviewing your site. I think it's a great idea, and I would really like to try and use it some more.
