MyThings Valuation FAQ

Due to the popularity of our valuation service, we can currently only process three free valuations per member. Please restrict your submissions to three valuations or less. Thank you.

What is MyThings Valuation?
MyThings Valuation is a place to get three free value estimates on things you own. These valuations are for your personal guidance only and are not intended to be used or relied upon for insurance or financial planning or any other purposes whatsoever. All valuations are estimates based on the information you submit. The value you may actually realize if you sell an item may be less or more than any valuation you receive on the MyThings.com website.

How many free valuations can I receive?
MyThings provides every member three free valuations.

How do I get an item valued?
To submit an item in MyThings valuation, you need to make it public, upload a picture and write enough details about the item so that the MyThings Valuers can make a reasonable estimate of the value of the item. It must be in the category Art and Antiques, Collectibles or Jewelry and Watches. In order to submit it:

1.Sign in to MyThings, then click on Things I Own.
2. Click on the button at the top of the page that says “Add Item Manually”
3. Select the category Art and Antiques, Collectibles or Jewelry and Watches (only items in these categories can be valued).
4. Upload one to three photos of your item and include all the information you have about it (size, style, where you purchased it, a story about it, the more the better)
5. Click the “Add to Things I Own” button at the bottom of the page after you’ve added in all your info
6. When viewing your item, scroll down until you the Trade Manager section.
7. Click on the Value tab.
8. Click on the Submit button. Some confirmation text should appear.
9. It will take about a week for the Valuers to take a look at your item and tell you how much they think it’s worth. If you submit all three of your valuations at the same time, Valuers will appraise one per week. You will get a message through the MyThings message system, and your item will appear in the Valuation section.

How long does it take to get a valuation?
It should take about a week to receive a valuation. However, if you submit all three of your valuations at the same time, Valuers will appraise one per week.

Why can’t I get my item valued? What’s wrong?
MyThings Valuers can only value three items. These items must be in the Art and Antiques, Collectibles, or Jewelry & Watches categories. The option to get a MyThings valuation will only appear if your item is in one of these categories. Your item must also be Public and have at least one photo.

Who are the MyThings Valuers?
MyThings Valuers are knowledgeable in the valuation of arts, antiques, collectibles, jewelry, and watches, but do not claim to be experts.

What notifications will I receive when I submit my item for valuation?
After you submit your item, you should be informed that your item has been added to the valuation queue. When you return to your item and click on the Value section, you should be the text “MyThings Estimate: In Progress.” When the valuation is complete, you will receive a message in your MyThings Message Center and your valuation will be visible when you look at your item. Your item will also appear on the Valuation page.

How can I become a Valuer?
Valuers need to have a good deal of experience in their field – however, that field does not necessarily have to be in arts or antiques. You must be comfortable enough with a certain kind of item – whether that be old cars or stamps or watches – to be able to value it simply by looking at its photograph and description.
